Pandora of the Greek myth depicted above as she contemplates what could be within the container left in her care? 1881, watercolor, Lawrence Alma-Tadema is the painter.
Could we be living in a Pandora’s box world? Could that have been the internet that unleashed a cascade of troubles?
Pandora opened a jar left in her care containing sickness, death and many other unspecified evils which were then released into the world.[4] Though she hastened to close the container, only one thing was left behind – usually translated as Hope, though it could also have the pessimistic meaning of "deceptive expectation".[5]
Nah. It’s the age old problem. How do we clip the wings of dark angles meant to do us real harm. We tamed the pandemic with vaccinations, ongoing. We will vote out the Republican Party lock stock and barrel. The perfect idiom as we want to sweep away guns especially assault weapons. We can do a very good job of stuffing the stinky winds back into the jar with accountability. It will take a lot of time and many cycles of watchfulness and generally more interest in local governing.
Accountability is a multi syllabic word that has more tools in the shed than Elon Musk has ways to destroy the Twitter platform so valuable for journalists. Shiny objects distract us as does having a laugh. Musk, for all his paid for promotional material is a terrible comedian. Chaos and joking, outrageous behavior of MAGA for example are time wasters for everyone. It’s their reason for being. What is our attention being drawn away from?
Musk routinely changes his twitter name and taunts because he can. Look at the sign in the San Fransisco Bay area at Twitter.
The likely reason is Musk’s ongoing and renewed relationships with China. A relationship he’s not anxious to broadcast since his calls for peace discussions with Putin disintegrated into laughter and jeers in an obvious genuflection to the Russian leader of the genocidal war on Ukraine. Or it may be in reaction to a recent decision to limit the Substack platform from working well through Twitter. Substack, a wonderful support for many mostly liberaly minded writers.
Elon Musk has limited access to Substack from the Twitter platform. You can get to Substack articles but must go through a screen that promises suspicious content. For subscribers that get email announcements or through the Substack app, no problem. For the writer trying to gain a wider audience, posting in multiple media platforms, may definitely deter people from experiencing Substack for themselves.
MAGA is a propaganda machine and Musk is an Eagle Scout first grade spreading their manure.
Big deal? Yes. Will it last forever? Probably not. Does Musk win? Nope.
Tennessee. The Justin’s will with great predictability win their seats back. It’s all a big deal. Did the Tennessee legislature win? Nope.
The Clarence Thomas’s in a (don’t say gay) … fun moment with an Echezeaux wine bottle. It’s a type of wine of the Cote de Nuits subregion of Burgundy with Pinot noir as the main grape variety. Sounds nice. Looks like someone has already had a taste.
Word is, the couple received many gifts from Harlan Crow. The mega donor is an odd one. Hard to understand his personal collections of Hitler memorabilia or how he was embraced by Clarence and Ginny Thomas for many years.
Big deal? The biggest. Will the Thomas’s live through this unscathed? Nope. They will not. Against all odds of protection and black robes that may include extended lower lips will not save the porn loving philanderer and his January sixth insurrection loving sweetie.
Texas judge holds medicine away from patients. Will this be reversed? Can the FDA approved drug be pulled nationally by a Texas judge? We wait to find out. One way or another, the march to zero abortive medication or procedures “allowed” will be halted. Huge deal. Will they prevail? How will those supporters be evaluated for the future? What do you think?
Today there was more gun violence. Louisville, Kentucky is today’s saddest place in the nation. A temporary moniker, till this afternoon or tomorrow.
It’s a fight. It’s a war.
Listening to Timothy Snyder, an historian, is helpful. He’s made his Yale lectures about Ukraine available to all. They are very accessible for anyone with an hour or less to listen. Listening to a particularly great interview, he said that in a hundred years or more this era will be more defined by the winners and losers of the Ukraine war than any masking debate. I thoughtfully agree. Leaving it here as the information is very fundamental to our unfolding story.
There is frustration on my part. A lack of understanding the dialogues or articles looking to the right to turn down the temperature on rhetoric. They are head scratching on how to win. The idea being if you find a candidate that is less scary everything will be ok without assessing the general thrust of the entire party. No outrage statements from the right on any of the hot issues. I see a need to cut out the GOP from the election winning. Not an end to the party. We need the two parties but the Republican Party must be defeated into changing because of their new history.
The drivers of their party line, MAGA, Ultra, if that is still a label, are leading but in the wrong direction for democracy. Work to drive the votes to the side of democracy. Keep supporting the courts to overturn kangaroo nonsense as seen on Tennessee as well as the Texas incomprehensible ruling on FDA approved medication for reasons other than safety of the prescribed medical treatment.
The key to our best survival is the biggest deal going. Vote. Vote Blue in every case. Force them to decide who they are. In or out of our future. Accountability in 2024.
