DeSantis Has Spoken

February 1, 2023. As the people of Memphis gather to celebrate the life of Tyre Nichols, Ron DeSantis makes strides at eliminating the telling of the history of Black men and women in the United States.

History is a lot of things. To people, it’s who your people were. How they came to be who they are. How you fit into your people’s history and who you are and how you fit into today. It’s most important when your peoples stories have been interrupted by others. When the boats took you and your family was broken. When the knock on the door happened and you were escorted away to the camp. When you hear the missiles hit, who remembers are the ones that survive. Who carries the history of these crushing events? I suppose erasing history is simpler, arguably kinder than successful genocide.

The brazen path DeSantis has chosen for Florida is indefensible. The idea he is in the same breath available for a presidential run seems counterintuitive as the country is a broad landscape of education, background and hopes for the future. He has been called a racist but I am suggesting more. The elimination of books, the curtailing of education about a people show they are singled out in similar fashion to the Jews prior to World War II. This is not a happy statement to make. It’s not made lightly by this writer of Jewish and Ukraian decent.

The Governor of Florida is a more recent problem when thinking of how The Federal Bureau of Investigation has taken significant confidence hits with the arrest of George McGonigal. We have been eyeing the FBI and some of their decisions surrounding the election of 2016, 2020 that continued to favor Trump.

Police have been a pivotal point of discussion. Their aggressive tactics and lack of accountability have for years been a talking point only to lose more ground and reason for loss of confidence. Lack of ability to stop school shootings in progress and traffic stops resulting in tragedy after needless tragedy. It’s never the cop that dies. He will be there to say what happened.

In a new low, not to believed except for the video proof, California police shot a man who had stabbed someone as he tried to run from police. He was a double amputee. He tried to run away on his stumps but was shot dead at relatively close point by two policemen, eight shots. The police feared that the man, who had a knife, would throw it at them. (It was a big knife.) It was this writers belief just prior to this news that the police violence and needless loss of life could not get more pathetic. Shamefully, this writer was wrong.

Supreme Court in new poll lows suggests - “quit looking if you don’t like what you see” attitude as John Roberts wife professional career of what seems to be either head hunter or matchmaker to lawyers and law firms, raking in huge fees for making the match. Only a teensy wrinkle is, these are the firms and lawyers who bring cases to her husband’s little court where transparency of the justices is, in a word, voluntary.

The McCarthy rad team of threatening hyenas are snapping about the economy and fiscal responsibility as they, the fiscally responsible ones aim the economic trajectory of the country into the dirt. To be crystal clear, waiting for the Republican plan for the economy is Trumps resuscitated Infrastructure Week. In other words, a mirage. It’s a blank piece of paper to wave around while blaming the sky for being blue.

The debt is just that. Debt. It’s not a plan, suggestion or future. It’s the result of planning, buying and pledging. It’s the thing we pay. We always do. We are the United States of America. The Republicans are wanting to weaken us in the eyes of the world and why? It’s actually difficult to say why. But their actions are clear and unmistakeable. So, debt, is like the bill you get for your electricity, gas or credit card. Remember this is an analogy so it’s not exact, but here it is: Once you get the bill, you don’t have the power of negotiating. You pay it. If the bill is higher than expected, you budget differently for the next cycle.

I heard that Biden and McCarthy were to meet sometime today. Possibly on the debt ceiling topic since the Speaker talked about it all day. Without more on that meeting, it’s impossible to say if POTUS could find us a way out of this manufactured crisis before it actually hits.
