Effectively, trumps strategy to stay out of court is to stay out of court.
Judge Cannon today heard from Jack Smith and Trumps lawyers. Trump is looking to delay for two reasons. 1- he’s too busy running for president. 2- he’s too busy defending himself in all his other indictments.
Before the hearing today, yet to be ruled on by Cannon, but “soon”, DJT splashed his response to his target letter in another Smith pending indictment of Jan 6 and Trumps part in the events of that day. It was the usual long winey tirade replete with nick names. He’s got time on his hands for a guy with no time for anything.
We’re all nervous about Cannon. Her inexperience at trial. Her formerly leaning towards Trumps lawyers unmeritorious requests. The fact that Trump speaks highly of her in public. She’s a Trump appointed judge. All weighty considerations to the ultimate meaning of the indictments and the importance of speed, an important part of the speedy trial notion we have as a backbone of the Department of Justice. BTW, it protects both the defendant from a corrupt Justice and the public from a defendant in the wind, at liberty.
All sorts of weird things happen when a spotlight is thrust at you. I’m thinking of the OJ trial and how The Tonight Show opened with the dancing Ito’s some homage to the trial judge. Marcia Clark was so torn apart over her hairstyle. Remember when she entered the court after a hair makeover? Everything stopped with all eyes on her and she knew it.
It was hard for people to function normally. The media had all gotten to them. That’s what trump does in a microcosm. Makes one person, like Cannon feel like a special star. Fine for stars or entertainers who preform, must preform with shouts, jeers, bravo’s and all, but someone in law? Sure there are the glory hounds as on tv. Back to Cannon.
The indictment letter today from Smith alerting trump and lawyers to his pending charges signals the day is nearing. Could be this week, or next. By August, Fani Willis will likely bring indictments for the sprawling Georgia scheme. Yes scheduling woes for Trump lawyers. Get more? How about all the media. No problem, waiting as ever for fresh Trump.
News regarding the electors scheme part of the over arching theme of the Georgia case. Article is from local authorities, Michigan’s Attorney General.
These defendants are alleged to have met covertly in the basement of the Michigan Republican Party headquarters on December 14th, and signed their names to multiple certificates stating they were the “duly elected and qualified electors for President and Vice President of the United States of America for the State of Michigan.” These false documents were then transmitted to the United States Senate and National Archives in a coordinated effort to award the state’s electoral votes to the candidate of their choosing, in place of the candidates actually elected by the people of Michigan.
“The evidence will demonstrate there was no legal authority for the false electors to purport to act as ‘duly elected presidential electors’ and execute the false electoral documents,” Nessel continued. “Every serious challenge to the election had been denied, dismissed, or otherwise rejected by the time the false electors convened. There was no legitimate legal avenue or plausible use of such a document or an alternative slate of electors. There was only the desperate effort of these defendants, who we have charged with deliberately attempting to interfere with and overturn our free and fair election process, and along with it, the will of millions of Michigan voters. That the effort failed and democracy prevailed does not erase the crimes of those who enacted the false electors plot.”
There’s this thing when you’re on the highway and the car in front is slow. So you decide to pass. Blinker, lane change, accelerate, move ahead and back into the lane. Ok, then there’s this phenomenon that happens almost every time.
You decide to pass. Blinker, lane change, accelerate and so does the car in the slow lane. You struggle to pass. You glance to your right prepare a finger and think better of it. It happens. Anyway, the speeding up part is what I think may affect the multi flex of proceedings against Don the Con as he tries to hit the breaks. It’s the only thing between him and his loss of liberty.
The pundit talking heads have been wondering about who’s going first? Smith? Willis? Does it matter? Yeah, good question. And does it matter to the judges?
