However fraught we are with anxiety, these people, in Israel, in Gaza are in the knot.
Google feels me…
“There have been conflicts in the Middle East since the beginning of human civilization in that region. However, conflicts appear to be especially common since the end of the First World War, when the Ottoman Empire collapsed.”
The Biden administration with Anthony Blinken, serving as the 71st United States secretary of state, created a deal last May to cease the bombing, ultimately end the war, bring hostages back. If agreed to by the very right leaning Israel cabinet, Trump administration would be the ones on behalf of the US, continuing to make that deal go forward into a lasting peace and a two state solution.
Assurances are hopes yet unrealized. With change a constant not in increments but in tsunamis of change projecting into the future feels as looking into a cottony fog.
Remember Netanyahu wanting to wait to decide on continuing the war or not, till trump was in? That sentiment was even before he was elected. How can Bibi drag his feet and for what? More bombs? To bomb the hole?
No true assurances of what Trump may do. How are relations today with Netanyahu and do they private assurances? How does Trump world see the shift of nations. The collapse of Syria. Stuff’s different.
And more currently, as I am checking news before I publish this… an hour and 22 minutes later.
We won’t need to wait very long. The cruxes of matters are turning. Which way people hands tip won’t fool the many eyes watching for the smallest muscle to twitch. Forks in the road diverge ever wider or will they? Every metric up till now suggests the work, the months of war could never, might as they try, will never work. A grove of behavior deepened more, a divide made impossible? Bombed to only diverge and to never join.
There’s the leaders and then, people.
Happy in Gaza for the news.
And outside the Gaza walls… more happiness. More hopeful faces.
Prayers, desire, passion to end. Passion for peace. Passion to be heard by the few that keep the wars going. They’re can be no further blood to rend from the bombshell landing in very rubble. Fighting to keep the right to make war.
Expelling the war makers to stop the wars is not a new thought but timely one once again.
And lastly, in times of big change we can change perhaps just as easily for peace.
JFK with words on the subject. His words written below. (the speech is edited)
“What kind of a peace do I mean and what kind of a piece do we seek. Not a Pax Americana enforced on the world by American weapons of war. Not the peace of the grave or the security of the slave I am talking about genuine peace. The kind of peace that makes life on earth worth living and a kind that enables men and nations to grow and to hope and build a better life for their children.
Not merely peace for Americans but peace for all men and women. Not merely peace in our time but peace in all time. I speak of peace therefore as the necessary rational end of rational men.
I realize the pursuit of peace is not as dramatic as the pursuit of war and frequently the words of the pursuers fall on deaf ears but we have no more urgent task. Our problems are man mad therefore they can be solved by man and man can be as big as he wants. No problem of human destiny is beyond humans beings man’s reason and spirit have often solved the seemingly unsolvable and we believe they can do it again.
And, if we cannot end now our differences at least we can help make the world safe for diversity for in the final analysis our most basic common link is that we all inhabit this small planet we all breathe the same air. We all cherish our children’s futures and we are all mortal.” - John F. Kennedy
Thanks for being here. I wouldn’t be here without you.
