Shame.
Netanyahu turned his back on his people. He has turned his back on his heritage. The structure of power in the world has changed and not for the better.
The intense and volatile history of Israel has been added to and as ever, history will be the judge. There is already clarity around the changes and what this will mean for the democratic process in Israel.
The vote was well in favor of the far right faction Netanyahu represents in Israel. Netanyahu all the while, just barely done with surgery for his heart, known to be the seat of empathy and considered most “human” part of the body. Hope he's fixed.
President Joe Biden made an uncharacteristic appeal to Netanyahu not to move forward with the law. It’s unwritten in traditional politics not to interfere in the domestic affairs of other countries. This was in todays terms a real hair on fire moment for Joe Biden to put aside these norms and make his wishes known both publicly and privately. Benjamin Netanyahu was dismissive of Biden’s requests, ignoring or dismissive of what was an especially strong and special relationship between Israel and America.
The games are the same in Trumpworld. Grab power. Ignore the will of the people.
The Grand Old Party chose to purchase the courts here slowly over time. Only quite recently making their agenda open to see since they were nearing completion and no longer feeling the need to hide in secrecy. Israeli move on curtailing democracy may be less expensive and faster too. But how long well it last? The lease or purchase options can be confusing.
The challenge is obvious. 2024.
So, this is the peace in the Middle East Jarred Kushner worked on behind closed doors and assured us all?
Thanks for being here. I really appreciate it. This week is lit.
