An inquiry for truth across religions was my carrot. Is my carrot. Can religion as a repository of ancient wisdom be mined for enduring truths or is an earnest mediation on them a gaze only of delusion? In a time where every thought might be fake or untruth, a conspiracy theory. A slightly different sort of truth is sought. A truth that proves all other truths and all other falsities false. I’m looking for facts as they play out in the human experience in an enduring way, everywhere for all time. Not too broad a task, I revel in kidding but enjoy the pursuit.
In a moment of visual serenity, the moon appears to rest atop Mt. Fuji. My apologies in not having the photographers name for credit.
There’s a lot of hate around these days. Division is made from hate and if you don’t see the hate, the divisions makes the hate visibly clear. Human emotion within every being is complex and surprisingly simple. When a human story is told, no matter how old or long ago, we understand the human heart across the ages. I also offer as further proof - Not a person is or was born without a belly button. Every being on the earth grows towards the sun. From the start we have changed so little.
Stuck in a world of polar opposites is an illusion and the most difficult to escape. Is this a trap or simply what life is?
Lots of talk in conversation and social media about karma these days as a payback machine for poor deeds to be levied against the wrong doers. Yes, it works this way, but is an infinitely more complicated wheel as it is described (The Wheel of Karma). In an updated visualization better described as a more three dimensional orb or concept of the universe revolving in circles big and small all coordinated and dovetailing in a a vast web of electrical charges holding it together in a Rube Goldberg mechanization that should falter and fall apart but never does. It can’t. It’s held in play by everything that has come before. Human emotion is one of the movers of the wheel and likely the strongest glue in the universe next to the glue that holds the universe together. Guessing as they are intertwined, it’s made of the same stuff.
Why care about any of it as a discussion or an inquiry? Knowledge, understanding and finding ones part in it. This is one inquiry that doesn’t bring votes, or money but other fruit less tangible. It’s not for everyone.
Hate or the expression of it is against life. It chips away slowly or broadly. Causes disease, division, lack, confusion. There are many guises and names. *In defense of disease, it is not hate incarnate. It is however clearly not pro life. Debility can be experienced in spite of a beings true nature. It’s been argued that bad things happen to good people. Many other thoughts too, attributed to spirituality especially in the “New Age” are poorly thought out, using blame and shame to elevate and lower others, or try. It’s a control tactic and another example of how emotion of all kinds is karma and a mind falling short of answers may get ensnared.
The forces that don’t support life and that are truly destructive as hate is, have a place in the natural order and it can be argued are part of that order and are akin to natural decay but are not. In the natural order of things there is a season of decay and loss of life we accept as part of the miracle of life we attribute to the dark silence as internal growth. There is no death in nature, just a dormancy and prelude to the inevitable, a resurgence. Hate or other names of the destructive nature is somewhat different and generated somewhat differently. Hate must be fed and stoked or it collapses and disappears. Life is self perpetuating. Hate is self inflicted and wounds.
The markers of hate in our collective history are big and sad and crippling. Yet we indulge. Most recently in WWII, when I think of hate, I think of Hitler as an icon of hate and evil. His ovens were made to cook (by gassing) people till they disappear. Gates of hell on earth to warn everyone, you are nothing or next. One or the other. How hated are you, show me with allegiance.
Being hated freezes you, drains you from the inside. It’s meant to paralyze giving a chance to hate to thrive. Truly anti life. We are living hate again. Hate is grasping for the wheel of life and as it is embraced the hardest it will be destroyed. Not by a person or an act but by the nature of things. And the nature of things is us. We are life and we are not born of hate.
Karma is not a white knight although a white knight may save a damsel in distress, the story tells us of how and why the ending is happy. We are in the story now. There is no knight on a charger but there is Shiva, the destroyer and Michael the Dragon Slayer and you and I. How do we slay the dragon of hate? Our sword is our hearts desire.
Gari, this is a beautiful post, thank you. We 'are' LIFE. Life wants to LIVE. If you spell 'live' backwards, you get 'evil'. Hatred destroys Life,-or possibly it is a catalyst to overcome and persevere despite of it (?). This will to live is Life, too. There are cause and effect laws of nature that are Newtonian that are probably what people call 'Karma', although any belief system seems to be a thought-construct but not the essence of Life itself -Life being lived. At the quantum level, Life is unpredictable. Miracles happen. We are all made of stardust. Thank you, again. BEST, Lisa
