Jair Bolsonaro Is Not Woke
One last pass at the convention of nope.

A hero’s welcome, or a very least he was auditioning on The Voice? CPAC 2023 is full of little perks that make it unique to the “Ultra MAGA’s” as Lauren Bobert demands it now to be called.
The presidency of deposed Jair Bolsonaro and Donald J. Trump are being touted as mirrors to one another. Birds of a feather, neither attended the subsequent presidents inauguration. Neither thought Covid-19 was a big deal enough to involve science as it puts a cramp in freedoms style. Both appear to be making third run at the presidential position. Trump seems to be wanting to correct an error and Bolsonaro also a one term pres looks for a third run as his “mission is not over”. Trump was bested by Biden. Bolosnaro by a popular Luis Inacio Lula da Silva, who is known generally by just Lula.
Bolsonaro is the real deal. He is known for his national conservatism, an opponent to abortion, same sex marriage and drugs, unlike Trump who only pretends to hold those same notions. The most striking real parallel though is the coup attempt by Jair’s followers. January 8th of 2023 the Supreme Court, the National Congress and the Planalto Presidential Palace. Bolsonaro left Brazil shortly before the end of his term, already in Miami at the time of the coup attempts. He finally did denounce the “protesters” and denied responsibility. So, yeah, nearly the same guy.
Turning up at CPAC? Weird way to run for president of Brazil and so are the other speeches he is giving in Florida to Brazilian expats. He may be looking for a permanent home in the US and his only gig has been politics. The optics make one wonder.
MAGA are woke deniers. They sneer the word, they punch it. They make it obvious it’s a bad thing to be, have, save, aspire to woke. People can be woke and so can things. Ideas are primarily the stuff of woke or what might be the opposite? Nope? Looking at defining this word in its latest meaning so we can fully appreciate the moment. Merriam-Webster has a US slang definition.
Aware of and actively attentive to important societal facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social injustice). Often used in contests that suggest someone’s expressed beliefs about such matters are not backed with genuine concern or action.
Also, disapproving: politically liberal (as in matters of racial and social justice) especially in a way that is considered unreasonable or extreme)
The word is used as an adjective constantly in conservative circles. Woke capitalism for example, invests in environmental concerns.
Given the devolving environment we are in, “woke” has become a slur. It’s been turned, now a bigoted epithet. If you are or sympathize with Blacks, Jews, Muslims, women, abortion rights activists, climate activists, who are seeking or hope for (positive) change, you are “woke”. Said by the opposition, it’s not meant as a compliment or a neutral characterization.
When you see the sound bites, keep in mind, this is what it looked like at CPAC during Trumps speech.
With the obvious CPAC failures we may yet be free of the distractions as enthusiasm is dwindling. Mugging for the camera, the ever important sound bites for Russian tv abound as do drop in by celebrities,.. do we see Russel Brand moving in on Jr’s girl? Or just showing his true allegiances?
News from many sources seem to point to TFG’s long awaited indictments to come in the next week or two. We can tell because of the “Truth” meltdowns.
