Rule of law and common sense dictates something will land the former president in a position where his hands (and mouth) are tied. Soon.
The phrase “loss of liberty” jumped out today to say, perhaps not prison after all but some kind of managed disappearance from public life will be in the discussion. There are often deals to be struck at the Cinderella hour but won’t slow the indictments. Loss of liberty could also be a gentler euphemism to soften the blow for Republicans asleep on Earth 2, of which there are buckets full.
Andrew Weissman’s bio says “20 years at DOJ; lifetime as inveterate NYer. Co-host of MSNBC podcast "Prosecuting Donald Trump" ; NYT bestseller: Where Law Ends.” An opining lawyer and talking head celeb in his own right, Andrew indicates in a precedent smashing tweet today:
Still feigning some maligned forces are after him, Former tweets strings of all caps rants. A Witch named Hazel or Hunt. He’s in some fever dream, something similar to a paranoid drug haze shouting into space, littering Twitter and who knows where else. Does Truth Social even exist anymore? Since Elon Musk bought the bird platform for Donnies friends and allies to paper over the truth by elevating Republican thought and blocking others, the platform is plunging in more than one way. Twitter admits it here.
Musk spent his own brand of funny money to purchase the closed app. Borrowing from here and there. The 44 Billion dollars has been reduced to 15 Billion Twitter dollars. Funny how the loss comes by limiting truth and access by legit journalists. That is a true expense. Short story below, longer story in the link in this paragraph.
There are lots of people doing all sorts of things to help the Donalds cause. Spending crazy money to try. Installing him to the White House is the endgame. Although there are visible fails trying to transfer his power to another, it is also being broached seriously.
The attempts inspired by TFG to keep him in power, to return him to the White House are gymnastic, gigantic and failing. It’s like making sure Barbie and Poindexter not Barbie and Ken are installed permanently as prom king and queen. Nope and nope again. Bit by little bits. The big push, the big lie is failing.
The classified documents case appears to be ready to bear fruit in the form of indictments this week with only four days left. There was a meeting of the lawyers today in Washington DC. Although we don’t have reports from in the room, the law follows strict procedures and if you’re in the know, you can read those legal tea leaves. and sometimes there are good reasons to just wait outside the room and see how people look when the party’s over.
Smith was likely part of the meeting, AG Garland was not. Discussions also were likely not about will indictments happen or not but may have been about venue selection. There will be legal details all along the way that are important and procedural and everyone gets to weigh in in a democracy. That’s why it can take a long time, but also why it works well. Not like in Russia, where we are still hopeful for our journalist, under arrest in Russia, Evan Gershkovich, who is still not home.
…with more, deeper updates here.
Will the court appearances be in Florida, New Jersey or Washington DC? There may be more folks indicted with Trump. His aide, Walt Nauta and perhaps one other may also be charged in obstruction charges concerning the movement of the documents as well as blurry information concerning those movements. They may have made false statements about the documents or boxes. Corcoran, a Trumpworld lawyer, may have been lied to and made to think documents were not present while the boxes seemed to float by beyond his sight. Yeah, he was used in the usual sense by a man who sees every person as a thing and everything in the universe to serve only him.
Corcoran attested to the absence of boxes. The real life patsy relayed his notes to Jack Smith in person, under oath, and recorded for a potential jury to hear. A real Shakespearean play within a play.
A word on DeSantis and what he’s doing with his woke stuff. It’s insulting to sentient beings.
