The potential loss of our democracy is not an organic movement towards autocracy. We are being driven by foreign powers and we’re accepting of it. There are plenty of people who don’t get this.
The American Experiment is being attacked and it looks like one thing but it is another. The big lie is big enough to simply be a shadow blocking the sun now. As of this writing Erdogan is waiting as the world waits for his next move. The photos of elderly Turkish men and women being physically supported by friends or family as their stern faces wait to vote, presumably, him out. Are we headed there with a continuing influence of forces pushing us right in ideology to vote democracy down? What will it bring us? Diminishing healthcare, increase in poverty, declining education, facing a future with less every year, just waiting for the opportunity to vote for regime change.
The foreign powers are bringing gifts. Tiny Trojan titmice carrying cat videos and dance too through tictok from the Chinese theft/surveillance app now banned for government employees (state and local etc apply).
Serious discussions about Twitter have to happen. Musk has hired an handmaiden fall guy, is there any doubt? He will always be in charge of his operations. His genius demands it. The world stands an applauds although they don’t know exactly why. Nor do I. Wondering if Rupert has given Musk advice about Tucker Carlson…(warning Will Robinson) Facebook was leader of the pack has as morphed to META and curiously drowning. I recall when Facebook went “public” it was Russian money that supported it. Russia is a bit pinched right about now for funds as they are running out of US dollars. It’s certainly not the 2015/2016 cycle again. If the quality of advertisers on any of these sights is meaningful to the quality of the platform, well, you just can’t get a Pilates machine for $150. just everywhere.
Meta, formerly Facebook, is in crisis mode as value plummets in 2022. Weak revenues, regulatory woes, and costly metaverse bet are to blame. 2023 doesn't seem any better. Since Facebook officially became Meta in October 2021, the company has lost more than two-thirds of its stock market value. - Jan 12, 2023
Addicted? No, dependent, yes, on the media platforms. Free and open to all, finding an organically attracted virtual group of friends. That boat has sailed long. Every platform is sales of one sort or another with special dashboards for those who pay and special treatment for those who pay and the town square is for sale to the highest bidder and not all highest bidders live in the US which is fine.
Seemingly we have used social media of personal choice forever. Twitter became a thing in 2006. Tic Tok, 2016. Granddaddy Facebook, 2004. Who has t-shirts older than that?
Foreign influence isn’t necessarily a bad thing but we aren’t talking about importing baked goods or a shiny new car. Neither is it the town square. It’s Elon’s offering of his idea of a town square if a town square was a place you’d like but likes not maybe the right word, but we will use like till the right word trips along and there. Ticket to Mars anyone?
The media owners and their backers, lenders or friends may not share our values, or live under the same laws or care about us either. They could even wish harm. It’s a spectrum. The point is, the Pandoras box is actually a Pandoras box. We should try to get that lid back on or think of something. Yeah, we can think of something like regulation. Oh horror the bad word. The one that gets the screeching monkeys with banjos going, regulation.
Elon is banning long standing small news sites from live-streaming for zero reason while offering Fox fired hate monger, Tucker Carlson a spot. Although yet to be seen, when it appears, he’ll be laughed off becausebecauselalalalalafascist. It’s Elon Musk’s site, in the US, we give the owner the right to make the rules.
What if the rules do not not include allowing the First Amendment rights to US citizens on US soil or basically anyone? We should all know about that. You have been informed.
