In the late hours, face mask blocking the faint light of 11 pm drifting gently off … internally seeing Trump lunge at Bobby Engel, the Secret Service officer who served as his driver on January 6, 2021. How else have we slept since November 8, 2016?
Trump takes Secret Service for a spin. From Walter reed Hospital, to Walter Reed Hospital. Dressed for COVID-19. In pre vaccination days.
Regarding that fateful day on Jan 6, Cassidy Hutchinson, Mark Meadows assistant told the Jan 6 committee, and the world that Trump asked then demanded to go to the Capitol to meet the mob.
As reported in the NY Post June 28, 2022 article, Ms. Hutchinson said, at the hearing, what she heard back at the White House office that day of the insurrection when talking to Tony Ornato, White House deputy chief of staff for operations.
“I looked at Tony, and he said, ‘Did you f—ing hear what happened in the Beast?’” Hutchinson said. “He proceeded to tell me that when the president got in the Beast, he was under the impression from Mr. Meadows that the off the record movement to the Capitol was still possible or likely to happen and that Bobby had more information.”
It was not possible, Engel told Trump. Presidential security is a legend of strict, but nothing was ever by the book in Trumpworld and we also learned from the Jan 6 hearing that Trump had wanted the “mags” (metal detectors) taken down that would keep guns out of the mobs hands. He was reported saying that “these were his people” and woulnd’t harm him. Engel was adamant and following protocol, took Trump back to the White House. But first, Cassidy related what she had been told, Bobby refused to go off script
‘We’re not, (going) we don’t have the assets to do it, it’s not secure, we’re going back to the West Wing,’ the president had a very strong and very angry response to that,” Hutchinson said.
“Tony described him as being irate. The president said something to the effect of ‘I’m the f—ing president! Take me up to the Capitol now!’ To which Bobby responded, ‘Sir, we have to go back to the West Wing.’
“The president reached up toward the front of the vehicle to grab at the steering wheel. Mr. Engel grabbed his arm and said, ‘Sir, you need to take your hand off the steering wheel. We’re going back to the West Wing. We’re not going to the Capitol.’ Mr. Trump then used his free hand to lunge toward Bobby Engel.”
TFG denied the event ever happened, fake this, sick that. So, that seems from past experiences like plausible confirmation.
Thinking, floating, behind the my mask, “Hmmmm.” That’s why he was reported to be alone, fuming and decorating our walls with his lunch. He didn’t just want to go to the Capitol, he planned on going to the Capitol. He was blocked and what was he going to do there? Confront Pence? Rip up the elector ballots? Stand like king of the hill and wave his arms like a maestro?
There was a plan to fix it but good. Why else go to all this trouble in the weeks and months previous to the date, there were many little levers to push and pull to make this thing work. Changes at the pentagon, changes limiting the weapons allowed for the Capitol police. An April NY Times article pinpoints the lack of preparation afforded to the Capitol police in advance of the day. It was a planned event at the Elipsis nearby the building. They were set up to fail in a proper defense of the Capitol and the humanity hiding within it. This was the Trump plan. All to get him to the Capitol but, …the limo driver.
Trump schmoozes and calls people by their first name when appropriate and especially when not appropriate. Taking liberties, breaking down class or rank barriers all to one advantage, his. “You wouldn’t deny a friend” basically is the riff. He’d had months and months to wear them down to do his work. Remember when Trump was airlifted to the hospital? After a couple days he was better and the secret service men wearing gowns and masks and drove Trump around as he waved. After a drive in a limo, an event that simply returned him to the hospital seemed pointless and needlessly exposing people to the virus. Perhaps there is no relationship between the two however the hospital stunt seems like a good way of testing the secret service as to their flexibility and their willingness to go “off book” with little warning. Because he wants to wave to his fans. You wouldn’t deny a friend…
Engel was asked for, as were all secret service agents, for his text messages. Oddly, sigh, all messages were deleted, phones changed or reset and darn if you had just asked for all that before, but now…
Engel was also among the Secret Service officials whose phones were turned over to the Department of Homeland Security Inspector General Joseph Cuffari, as part of an investigation into missing Secret Service text messages from Jan. 5 and Jan. 6, 2021. The agents' text messages were previously subpoenaed by both the inspector general and the House select committee.
Testimony to the Jan 6 committee resulted in little substantive information except a sidestep seemed obvious.
Trump, Hutchinson maintains was furious. He had been taken by Engels to the West Wing where he spent time alone watching the days events unfold on tv. Alone while his family watched sipping champagne. Perhaps he was enraged, needing to handle it, his failure, without having anyone to talk to about the secret plan that ended wrongly. His plan and he was alone.
He would have been president today, he is sure, if he had been driven to the Capitol. He failed. He failed to get the driver to take him where he had to go to finish the job. He didn’t get out and attempt to walk. Does he know how to drive? He didn’t pull a punch or make a mark. He fumed, threw ketchup. He failed miserably so he blamed Mike Pence.
