September 29, 2023.
We woke this morning to the news, Senator Diane Feinstein, has passed away. Although having difficulties due to illness it was none the less a shock to hear of her passing. Tributes were broadcast this morning as Congress assembled to get about their business of shutting the government, but first came together for short remembrances. Here is an annotated photo collection in celebration of her long career.
A short tribute that I found moving from Senator Whitehouse is pasted below. There will likely be many stories told recalling the well loved Senator from San Fransisco. I wanted to mention, also her close friend, former Rep. Jane Harman had gone to visit the evening before and held a photo taken of the fun and casual moment. She was talking about the moment on Andrea Mitchell’s show this morning and I simply cannot find a clip with the photo but it seemed like many photos I’ve seen before. Two old friends in a casual embrace for photo op taken by someone handy to the scene. A quick smooch and off one goes. Nothing in the photo or the recounting of the visit to even hint at the next hours that would hold of her passing, which is now being reported as being 2 am this morning.
Today was also the day General Miley would step down handing the reins to Air Force Gen. C.Q. Brown. Two temperamentally different leaders, Brown will be taking over as top military advisor on Ukraine to Biden along with all other responsibilities. Miley had been very much a hands on advisor in Ukraine, training Ukrainian troops in the US weapon systems. With Winter at hand, Ukraine is making its last efforts before freezing temperatures and impassable roads put a temporary stop to war movement.
Miley was in the news in very unflattering photo operation that Trump maneuvered Miley into. It was a moment that tarnished Miley in his own eyes. Ask Cassidy Hutchinson about how Trump manages to do this. It’s a rare skill. Anyway, you remember when Trump wanted to use the the park, Lafayette Square at St. John’s Episcopal Church, and had it cleared for a photo op during the George Floyd protests. DJT had Miley come along. It was a very banana republic move on Trumps behalf to be escorted by a US General. It was a mistake for the General, for which he nearly resigned.
Here are General Miley’s parting remarks in which he clearly talks about his presidents predecessor.
In other important news hitting this morning, the very first crack in the Fani Willis’s Georgia Jan 6 case. The crack is a guilty plea by otherwise little known Scott Hall, a bail bondsman by trade, who was one of the fake electors. There are times when I feel people from the future simply won’t believe the reporting, anyway, among other very hands on efforts, he spoke to Jeffrey Clark for 63 minutes and he’s likely a person that will be very helpful to the prosecution in explaining just what happened from his perspective. He is currently facing misdemeanor charges with lots of probation along with plenty of tush time in the witness box. The charges have been reduced likely due to the now guilty plea and since Georgia will be televised we are likely to be hearing and seeing plenty from Mr. Hall. There may be more flippers but they better claim their prize soon since trials begin pronto.
Thanks for being here. I appreciate your time. ❤️ Buttons don’t push themselves, so…
Trump Repulsive? Yes, but not to his followers. Is there a reason for Trump?
Was reading some David Hume this morning.
Philosopher David Hume believed that people are not driven by reason but by emotion and a strong desire to fit in within one’s group. This IMO, leads to comfort only attainable within the dogma of one’s group.
He believed that the only escape was to live probabilistically and to question and challenge everything.
Hume and I are closer together than I realized because I had always loved his epistemology but had never looked at his moral philosophy. His moral philosophy flows out of his epistemology which is how it went for me.
Hopefully I’m not being my often dense self and appear unconnected to today’s post. Apparently I often leave out steps in my thinking.
Thank you Gari, Lisa and others who follow these posts for caring enough to stay informed and to question.
Excelled, Gari! I was able to understand a lot going on from reading this today. Thank You
