Todays news, as reported through NY Times reveals Exxon Mobil scientists measured carbon dioxide in the ocean, in the air, projecting the damage to the planet we now call, climate change.
The projections made, it turns out are very accurate when compared to todays reality. That’s good. The science along with the scientists were cast in a light of doubt. The projections were made in the 1970’s, fifty plus years ago. That seems bad, because they made extremely light of it.
For fifty plus years, the article tells, Exxon Mobil “publicly cast doubt on climate science, and cautioned against any drastic move away from bunting fossil fuels, the main driver of climate change.”
We knew. They knew. They fudged. We had little way of fighting back or alternatives. Where’s the proof, well, they had it and controlled the native. We helped clean oil off birds.
Philip Morris. A familiar company and hopefully not as familiar as it once was. Including brands like Marlboro, Benson & Hedges, Virginia Slims and smokeless nicotine products as well selling worldwide. Smoking is complicated for those addicted and it turns out its complicated to litigate. In simple terms, they knew cigarettes smoking was addictive and caused cancer. They didn’t deny it leading instead with marketing that seemed to bely the truths.
The first time people were told about the ill effects of smoking, it was 1956. By 1972 Philip Morris brand became the largest in the world. There have been several waves of litigation since then and through today. Here’s a great link. Today there is a Master Settlement that resulted in seven tobacco companies agreeing to market cigarette differently and pay an estimated $206 Billion. So, why did people keep smoking generation after generation if the product meant illness and compromised lungs? Well, complicated also and that’s why they had to pay so much historically and keep paying. Poor disclosure coupled with aggressive smoke and mirrors.
George Santos is in the news and will be till his stories line up with some kind of provable reality. Todays news brings headway into the disjointed pieces we know. What has surfaced is the “campaign” did some digging in what is being called “a routine investigation” and what was found, “startling”. What little revelations have been dug up are murky, however are told:
“a small circle of well connected Republican campaign professionals had indications far earlier than the public that Mr. Santos was spinning and elaborate web of deceits...”
George obviously knows his true story. Boring or a doozy, is the story embraceable by all the bubbies in Queens? We will have to see. But the Republican Party knew. It was an inconvenient truth to their apparently, greater agenda so they ignored it. They failed to produce a quality candidate. They failed to protect their party and ultimately the country of Republican, Democrats and Independents. Congressmen and Congresswomen all go to Congress as free agents with no actual meaningful oversight. We elect them because they have their constituency to work for and we trust them to work for us. With George Santos there is no guarantee, frankly, no clue as to why he’s even there. Why is he?
No one person needs to be a hero. Fairy tales aside, we know there is no hero in the story of reality. Occasionally a good turn, you bet, but no hero. The story of the hero is to awaken our hearts and minds to the possibilities of what we each have within and can express.
Let’s not call this bullying anymore. It’s far greater and frankly, if we are going to survive on this planet it, being the lying and hiding of things that would cause a persons career or business to fail due to its very nature, has to stop. No maybe about it. That’s how we got here.
Love is always the answer.
On message with this article but also as tribute to two artists, both with intense musical legacy to share, that have passed on our watch, Jeff Beck and Lisa Marie Presley. Because art is the food of our souls, thank you for your presence, we mark your passage. Once again, the Jefferson Airplane.
