I really liked “How the West Was Won” when I saw it at The Palace. Now I’m disgusted by manifest destiny stuff. In fact, I’m quite vexed by the BS I was taught in school. I do adore one spaghetti western: “My Name Is Nobody” with Henry Fonda and Terrance Hill 🤠
I think I was in the 4th grade with school and we went to the city, nyc, to see it in cinerama. The scene where they went through the rapids was pretty spectacular. As if it were imax of the day. Otherwise I ran around the theater I’m afraid. I moved from NY, and lived in Sedona since for a long while and still live just outside. It’s a spectacular area for landscape and the movie industry was very big here in the 40’s and 50’s. Donald O’Connor lived here in retirement as did Jane Russell and others. Jane had a bar that eventually became ‘101 omelets’ . I used to see Mr. o’Connor in the local Japanese restaurant. It was his haunt. My late husband was a bull rider in ‘the rounders.’ He also did some stock work (animals). Actually the only bull rider in the rounders. An hilarious western from the ‘60’s. If you don’t know it you’ll love Fonda as “Howdy.” Only movie I can stomach Glenn Ford.
